Unicorn was founded in 1980 when I began to make toy animals from fabric to illustrate the bedtime stories that my husband, Gordon, was telling our two young sones. It has become a fulltime business with a focfus on on-of-a-kind dragons, unicorns, horses and Pegasus.

I hold a BA, MA and MFA in Theatre as a costumer and historian. It was my love of horses and fascination with unicorns that started the Gordon and I down this unique path. I do all the sewing and pattern drafting for the bodies of the pieces.

Gordon also holds a BA, MA and MFA in Theatre as a director, actor, and makeup artist. He has had extensive experience in makeup sculpting for prosthetic design. Gordon makes all the skeletal frames, hooves, eyes, tails, horns and wings using latex, sculpey, rubber coated wire and other mediums. Gordon provides the analytical mind, craftsmanship and scientific skills needed to create the pieces.

Our sculptures are truly a collaborative affair based on years of refining construction techniques and conceptual ideas. Our goal is to
produce sculptures that are the "closest thing to real." We call our art form "interactive soft sculpture."
